January BOPs

By Bria

"Are We Okay?" by Vicky Farewell Jan. 20

"Are We OK?" Is a soft, dreamy anxious first single from Orange-County native Vicky Farewell. It creates the visual of clearing your head while cruising the town with the windows down. Heavily inspired by fellow Angeleno musicians like Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, this funk and jazz-infused groove is the first teaser for her upcoming debut album, Sweet Company (April 8). Follow: @vickyfarewell "Night Gown" by Legwurk Jan. 20 Legwurk, aka Lani, is originally known for playing guitar and synths for Still Woozy’s live band, but she continues to drop new music of her own. “Night Gown” is the latest to be added to the growing list of singles to be released within the last 2 years. I assume the pandemic has forced nearly all musicians to channel their creativity even when they’re not on stage - “Night Gown” is a fun bop to keep you bouncing around in your downtime. Follow: @legwurk "Bamboo" by Ivy Sole Jan. 27 I feel like 2021 was good to Ivy Sole. Following the release of her third EP SOUTHPAW in 2020, the Philly native got some love last year for her collab with Topaz Jones for the sultry R&B single “One More Night.” Although “Bamboo” feels more akin to a more upbeat, acoustic pop cut, It’s worth noting just how much she’s been playing with the aesthetics and sound of 90s hip-hop and R&B in singles like “One More Night” and “Call Me.” The debut album Candid drops Feb 2, 2022.
